What personal information do we collect?

Information you provide to us

When you upload a new dataset to IFeaLiD you may provide personal information to us via the dataset metadata or image contents. Personal information is not a requirement to upload a new dataset. During your interaction with IFeaLiD, you may choose to provide us with personal information when you email us.

Datasets that were not accessed for two weeks are automatically deleted.

Information that we collect automatically

When you use IFeaLiD we may collect certain information automatically from and about your device. This includes data about your browser, the operating system you use when accessing our service, your Internet Protocol address and the date and time of each request you make to IFeaLiD. We delete all this information when it gets more than six months old.

Collecting this information enables us to better diagnose problems with the application, provide support more effectively as well as ensure the continuous functionality of the service.

What we do with your personal information

We do not use personal information that might have been provided to us in a new dataset file.

We use the automatically collected information mentioned above to better diagnose problems with the application, provide support more effectively as well as ensure the continuous functionality of the service.

Who we share your information with

We may share and disclose your personally identifiable information only in the limited circumstances described below:

  • We may disclose your information to third parties: (a) where required by law or regulatory requirement, court order or other judicial authorization, (b) to investigate any wrongdoing in connection with our services; and (c) to protect the vital interests of an individual.
  • To any other person with your consent.

We use a cookie to track your browser session in IFeaLiD. This procedure follows security best practices and is a crucial part of the service we provide to you.

How we protect your information

The hardware and storage infrastructure on which this IFeaLiD instance is running is located at Bielefeld University. We do not store or process your personal information through a third party.

We use appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction, both during transmission and once we receive it. However, no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100 % secure. Therefore we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Your data protection rights & choices

You have the following rights:

  • If you wish to access your personal information, you can do so at any time by contacting us using the contact details provided below.
  • You can correct, update or request deletion of your details by deleting and/or re-uploading a modified dataset file. You can also contact us using the contact details provided below in order to request that your data is deleted.
  • We have no way to restrict processing of your personal information as they are required by IFeaLiD for the service we provide to you. If you wish to object to processing of your personal information you can delete your dataset(s) (see above).
  • If we have collected and processed your personal information with your consent, then you can withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing your consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing we conducted prior to your withdrawal, nor will it affect processing of your personal information conducted in reliance on lawful processing grounds other than consent. To withdraw your consent, delete your dataset(s) (see above).
  • You have the right to complain to a data protection authority about our collection and use of your personal information. You can find the contact details of the data protection authority of North Rhine-Westphalia here.

We respond to all requests we receive from individuals wishing to exercise their data protection rights in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

How we link to other websites

Our website contains links to third party websites operated by other companies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other websites. We encourage you to be aware that when you leave our site you read the privacy notices of such other websites. This privacy notice applies solely to information collected by the IFeaLiD service.

Data retention

We will retain your personal information for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this privacy notice unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law, for legal, tax or regulatory reasons, or other lawful purposes.
